Irish Surnames in English. An A3 word art typography print by The Word Bird, Susan Brambell
Irish surnames are spread all over the globe and are rightly a badge of honour showing where your family came from. Irish family names can tell stories they can reveal locations or even a family’s trade, such as a fisherman, for example. Murphy means sea-battler, Kelly bright-headed, and O'Sullivan dark-eyed. There are many different origins for Irish names today but the vast majority can be broken down into either of three categories: Gaelic Irish, Cambro-Norman, and finally Anglo-Irish. These are the top 100 from the Census records in English. It's a rolled A3 print designed by Susan Brambell which will fit into an IKEA Ribba or similar and it posts world wide in its tube.
